Creation of a new UAP investigation panel in Spain
On October 23, 2024, UAP Digital announced the creation of a new, independent, multidisciplinary Spanish academic panel to contribute to the scientific study of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP)
The panel is a research group aimed at establishing connections with other scientific research structures abroad. It will also serve as a platform for scientists to exchange information on the subject, each contributing expertise from their respective field. One of the main reasons for the creation of this structure is the desire expressed by its founding members to popularize scientific research on UAPs in Spanish-speaking countries.
The announcement states :
The panel does not rule out any options as a possible explanation for the nature and origin of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. The hypotheses considered range from natural and atmospheric phenomena, advanced military technology, and electromagnetic anomalies or interferences, to the possibility that some UAPs may be technologies of unknown origin related to “non-human intelligences”
The inaugural version of the investigation group consists of :
Àlex Gómez Marín, Doctor in Theoretical and Neuroscientific Physics
Jesús Martínez Frías, Doctor of Geological Sciences
Gabriel de la Torre, Clinical neuropsychologist
Beatriz Villarroel, PhD in Astronomy
Juan P. González, industrial engineer
Josep Guijarro, journalist and writer
José Antonio Caravaca, field researcher and writer
Marcel Cano Soler, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of Ethics and Bioethics
And supported by :
Pablo Creus, geoeconomic and geopolitical analyst
Aleix de la Torre, journalist
Nico Fernández, journalist
Simon Peña, business management
Dr. Ribo, Doctor in Molecular Biology and Air Controller
Emilio Rodríguez, systems coordinator
The presence of experts from the natural sciences, physics, and social sciences is an interesting indication of the evolution of the study of UAPs, where investigations usually begin with human testimony.
Sentinel News was able to talk with one of his co-founders, Pablo Creus:
SN : Who created the panel?
PB : The idea of forming a panel of experts comes from the UAP Digital group, which is a website dedicated to covering and gathering all the political and academic news on the UAP topic for the Spanish-speaking public. The members of UAP Digital have been asking various professionals if they would like to participate in this project.
SN : When was the decision to create this panel made?
PB :This has been in the works for the past 4/5 months.
SN : What prompted you to create this panel, what was the reason or realization that prompted you to do so?
PB : The goal is to bring together professionals interested in the topic so they can collaborate. It’s a long-term initiative aimed at creating a serious project on the UAP topic in Spain.
SN : Is your panel backed by a university, a state department, or is it independent?
PB : It is independent, although it’s true that some of its members are part of the CSIC, which is the scientific council of the Spanish government. However, the panel is not currently backed by any entity or institution. In the coming months, the panel will seek to approach organizations, institutions, and think tanks in order to collaborate.
SN : What are your first research projects?
PB : The panel is being announced today. The group is still limited, but it will expand in the coming weeks. No articles or work by the members have been published yet, but a summary article of a recent study by one of its members, Prof. Gabriel de la Torre, has been made available: "Psychological aspects in unidentified anomalous phenomena witnesses."
Additionally, the panel has a very comprehensive form for aviation personnel, which is available on the UAP Digital website. This pilot reporting system will be used later by the members of the panel.
SN : How can Spanish-speaking scientists and researchers get in touch with you?
PB : We can be contacted through the email addresses on the website as well as those of each of the members.
SN : Is the panel registered under a specific legal status (association, NGO, company) ?
PB : The panel is not registered under any official status, at least not yet. The possibility of turning it into a think tank may be considered later on.
ADDENDUM 24/10/2024
Sentinel News was also able to talk with the panel’s head, Dr. Àlex Gómez Marín :
SN : What interests you about UAP study?
AGM : They represent an invaluable opportunity for science to go Beyond, to march towards the Unknown for real, and to learn about the edges of both mind and matter. I like to think of such Anomalies (with capital A!) as cracks in the wall of what we call Reality : rather than rushing to ignore them or explain them away, we should poke more and try to see what's at the other side.
SN : What functions will the multidisciplinary investigation group have?
AGM : Many. First of all, to contribute to remove some stigma from such a great enigma, hopefully inviting other rigorous brave scientists to come out of the closet (the closets are crowded!). Second, to better inform the public as to what is going on scientifically, sociologically, politically, and at other spheres in these exciting times. Thridly, to work progressively towards new alliances amongst scientists while lobbying for a more open discussion about what these phenomena may or may not be.
SN : How will you balance the different points of view of the experts?
AGM : In this particular "topic", I think that nobody really knows what is going on. Nobody! It is truly elusive and fascinating. Thus, intellectual honesty, freedom, and creativity are key. Moreover, as Jacques Vallée remind us towards the end of Passport to Magonia, collective quests need to be well aligned or else all the efforts end up dissipated in irrelevant personal disputes. If anything, UAPs remind us that the questions are as important as one's favorite answer.
